Doha 2009: Dinara Safina retires with injury against Jelena Jankovic at WTA Championships Dinara Safina was forced to retire due to a low back injury against Jelena Jankovic in her first round-robin match at the WTA Sony Ericsson Tennis Championships. Safina was serving at 1-1 in the first set when she stopped play, walked over to her chair and covered her face with a towel and told the chair umpire she could not continue. “It’s really unfortunate. Dinara said she had hurt her lower back,”
